Tube-era semis, and a brand-new town
Enfield filled in with houses when the Piccadilly line pushed out to Cockfosters in the early 1930s, so most of the borough is interwar semis and terraces — family homes where the check-out is the oven, carpet worn in the hallways and the dust on picture rails. Out at Southgate and Winchmore Hill the houses are larger and more period, some in conservation areas, which adds sash windows and high cornicing to the list.
The newest part of the borough is Meridian Water in Upper Edmonton, where thousands of new flats are going up and the first residents have only just moved in. Those check out like any new-build: limescale on the glass shower screens and chrome, and hard-water marks on fittings that have barely been used. East Enfield, around Edmonton and Ponders End, has the denser terraces and more shared houses, where it is oven and kitchen grease.

What it costs in Enfield
A studio starts at £149, a one-bed at £169, a two-bed at £219, a three-bed at £269 and a four-bed at £329 for a standard end of tenancy clean. Carpets are the usual add-on.
Local quotes run from about £129 for a small flat to £370 for a four-bed house, so our band is in line with the area. The semis are the common job here, and a three- or four-bed family house has more rooms, bathrooms and carpet than the bedroom count suggests, so send the size with your postcode and we’ll quote the house.

Parking and access on move-out day
Out in the Enfield suburbs there is often a driveway or an unrestricted street, which makes the van easy. Where there is a controlled zone — clustered around Enfield Town, the stations and Meridian Water — visitor parking is still done on paper scratchcard vouchers, sold in books of ten that you scratch off for the date and time. If your street is controlled, get a book in before the day.
