Down the coast, Crosby and Formby are affluent family homes; Bootle and south Sefton are denser Victorian terraces with more grease, damp and wear.

There is a water split worth knowing. Southport (PR8 and PR9) is moderately hard, so limescale on the taps and shower glass is a real deduction there; Bootle, Crosby and Waterloo (the L postcodes) are soft, where it is grease and damp instead. We treat each end accordingly.

Parking and access on move-out day

Out at Formby, Birkdale, Ainsdale and Crosby the homes have driveways and the streets are unrestricted, so the van parks outside. Southport and Bootle town centres are controlled — and Sefton doesn’t issue visitor permits to landlords or in central Southport — so for a town flat we use pay-and-display or come in by train. There is no clean-air charge for the van in Merseyside.
