Period houses by the river, and what they catch

Richmond is period and proud of it: Georgian houses around Richmond Green and Kew Green, Victorian terraces with original timber and parquet, and riverside conversion flats in Richmond, Kew and Barnes, much of it in conservation areas. That stock decides the check-out. Clerks here mark the sash windows and the paint ledges, the cornicing, and any scuff on a wood or parquet floor, which is cleaned and buffed rather than steam-cleaned like a carpet.

The water does not help. Richmond’s water is very hard, off the Thames Valley chalk, so limescale on the taps and the shower glass is a constant, and a frequent deposit flashpoint in the riverside flats. We descale it properly rather than wiping it and hoping.

A studio starts at £156, a one-bed at £207, a two-bed at £243, a three-bed at £339 and a four-bed at £425 for a standard end of tenancy clean.

Richmond quotes run from about £135 for a studio to £300-plus for a four-bed house, and the wood floors are worth a word: a parquet or timber floor is cleaned and buffed, which we build into the price rather than adding a carpet charge you don’t need. The family houses in East Sheen and Teddington are the bigger jobs, priced on the property.

Parking, and Twickenham match days

Much of Richmond and Twickenham is controlled parking, and visitor parking runs either on paper scratchcards or virtually through the RingGo Resident Visitor Permit. Set one up for the slot and we park near the door.

The local catch is Twickenham Stadium. On big rugby and concert days the council drops a one-day event parking zone over the streets around the ground in TW1 and TW2, roughly 11am to 11pm, and a van without a permit risks a ticket. If your move-out lands on a match day, tell us the date and we’ll plan around the fixtures. The whole borough is inside the ULEZ.
