Ilford has changed fast. The Elizabeth line and a run of new towers around the station have pulled in renters, and Redbridge now has one of the fastest-growing private rented sectors in London, up by close to two-thirds since 2012, with new HMO licensing to match. Here is the Redbridge catch worth knowing in advance. The borough still uses physical visitor scratchcards. You buy them through a MyRedbridge account in packs of ten, and they are posted out, which can take up to ten working days. So unless the resident already has cards in a drawer, you cannot magic one up on move-out morning. If your address is in a controlled zone, sort the cards as soon as the date is set.
If that is not possible we use pay-and-display or the team comes in by train. The whole borough is inside the ULEZ since the 2023 expansion, so factor that in if you’re hiring a van.
